Indiscipline Among the Youth

It is no gainsay that indiscipline among the youth is a canker worm that has eaten deep into the bone marrow of the country's framework. Scarcely can a day go by in our beloved country without we hearing about cases of varieties of crimes, some of which include; arson, robbery, swindling, terrorism, etc. 85% of which are  perpetrated by our youths!

"Boko Haram has previously used young girls as human bombs in its six-year insurgency in northeast Nigeria that has left at least 17 000 dead and made more than 2.6 million homeless."
Wow! give those girls eight more years and they would've blown up enough people to populate Jupiter!

Who and what is to blame for indiscipline among our youths? you may ask. Although there are numerous reasons, a fraction of them would be treated below.

Unemployment.
It is popular knowledge that Nigeria is ranked as a country having one of the highest rates of unemployed youths in the world. This isn't surprising as in a country that it's economic system is not bereft of corruption, unemployment will be a common phenomenom.
How can unemployment be responsible for indiscipline? you may ask. Okay, picture a youth that has just graduated from the university and has been without job for say, six years. That person would start worrying and from there, desperation can set im. At that moment, he/she would gladly jump at any idea about how to earn his means of livelihood, brought to him. Little wonder, it's a common sight to see youths in the employ of politicians as thugs!
Self employment would be a suitable panacea to this problem. If a youth is self employed, it would further reduce the numbers that are being injected into the labour market. look, let's face it. With the sudden downward turn of the economy, the government has other things to think about ans i am sure providing jobs for the youths isn't anywhere near their to-do list. It is therefore advisable for students to acquire a skill while in the university, or before going into one.

Peer group influence. An adage states "show me your friends and i will tell you who you are''. True to this, research has proven that youths, at that stage of their life mold their character traits according to the demands of their peer groups. This is so because they are always conscious of their friend's reaction to behaviors exhibited by them. Phrases like "if i do this, what will my friend say?'' is always at the back of their minds. They tend to do this because they do not want to be an object of scorn in his or her social circle thus, in an effort to always "be in the good book'' of their peers, these youths tend to be outlandishly exuberant and as a result, engage in acts that are morally degrading.
It is important that one should choose his/her friends carefully as friendship could make or mar an individual

Parental factor. As is widely known, next to God, is a parent. Parents have a role to play in molding the lives of their wards as they are the guardian angels of their children. They should note that youths are vunerable tp outside influences that can corrupt their behaviour. They should also try to be good role models to their children and in the long run, indisciplne would gradually be eradicated among our youths.

Westernization. Although the advent of missionaries in Nigeria played a major role in the massive turnaround of the country in it's wake e.g education, transport, health care services, industrialization e.t.c, it is also pertinent to note that with it also came some "not so desirable" things e.g corruption, bribery, rape, racism, smoking e.t.c. But it marvels me to see that among youths, these bad vices seem to be the order of the day.
People ahould limit their quest for the extent to which they copy these things . For instance, a shirt is good. But when it starts exposing your breasts, then it's not good!
